I have always been interested in the natural world. My favourite subject at school was Biology. I loved learning about all living things (from bacteria to huge animals, and plants).
Then I started to focus more on the human body: I want to understand how it works – when it is healthy, but also: what can go wrong? How do people get ill?
For this I focus on cell biology. Cells are so complex! By studying them we get to know a little bit more every time. And still, we know almost nothing, there is so much to discover. This motivates me to keep doing research.
Knowing that cells are so complex, I am always fascinated that everything in the cell works often so well. But sometimes it does go wrong… People get ill, show various symptoms. I want to understand why/how, so that hopefully we can treat the disease of the patient. So biology is really important for medical sciences.
Though my research is more focused on cell biology and medical sciences, I still like to read and learn about every part of biology!
