Hi! I think the latest interesting thing I’ve discovered about the brain is through my research. I’m looking at a specific protein called tau in the brain. Scientists think that tau might be one of the major culprits behind Alzheimer’s disease, which causes permanent damage to the cells in the brain, leading to loss of brain function over time. My recent research has found that tau doesn’t seem to behave like we expected it to. It’s a bit of a bummer because now I have to go back to the drawing board to think of what to do next, but it’s also an exciting challenge that I’m looking forward to trying to solve eventually!
Hi! The latest research I have been looking at involving the brain is a type of mutation (called BRAF) that can occurs in brain cancer! I have been looking at how many people with brain cancer have this mutation, hopefully my research will lead to patients with brain cancer being checked for and treated for this mutation 🙂
Hi! I’ve discovered that when you learn a second language as a child, it rewires a tiny area in the brain that is used to understand what other people around us think and feel. I’ve also discovered that this little rewiring make the brain better at understanding other people.
And the most important thing here, it is that I have discovered that this tiny brain change that comes with learning a second language happens in both autistic and non-autistic people. It means that the autistic brain can benefit from learning second languages, just like non-autistic brain.
