• Question: what is the fun thing about being a scientist

      Hi 🙂 It was nice to talk to you in yesterday’s chat session.

      The most fun thing for me about being a scientist is meeting loads of new people all working on different cool projects. I also like that you can work on different things if you want to – for example I am learning a computer method that I have now used to study malaria, dengue virus and other viruses. So my job doesn’t feel boring as there are new parts to it.

      That’s just my opinion though, and I now do all my work on a computer as I am a data-analyst/use computer code. However when I used to work in a lab I enjoyed finding a question, deciding how to answer it and designing experiments and using cool equipment to try and find the answer.

    Being a scientist is fun because you get to find out things no one knew before! A lot of the time you might be the first person in the world that’s trying to find the answer to a specific question, so it’s always exciting when you find something out, even if the answer isn’t what you thought. Being able to talk to people also finding new things is exciting too, especially when you get to travel around the world to do that!

    What I like about my job is that I get to see parts of the body not many people see- their cells- using microscopes. We use different stains to look at different parts of the tissue or cell such as fluorescent dyes which can be quite cool to look at.
