I love science for that moment of discovery. There’s this moment when you run an analysis and you discover something new. For a little while, you’re the only person in the world who knows about it. That’s pretty wild.
But also I love knowing that science can improve people’s health and their lives in a really tangible way.
Of course it’s also super interesting both in terms of the research, but the work has let me travel to exciting countries and meet the most incredible people.
I love being able to work with lots of different people, who I can talk to about my work and other stuff in the office! Science is very collaborative in general 🙂 I also just think it’s amazing to see the incredible complexity of living things, in my case tiny cells. And it’s so great to know the work I do is ultimately helping to improve cancer treatment for patients who need hope and options for getting better.
I wanted to say exactly what Natsuko wrote, that’s the same for me. Another thing that I love about science is that you never stop learning. There’s never a moment when you can say “I know everything now” because new discoveries are made every day. And I love learning new things and hear about cool discoveries!
Yes, absolutely, I agree with Natsuko and Veronica! The thrill you feel when you suddenly see the results of something you’ve been working on for so long, and you realise that this single piece of result you have just uncovered is going to help some people out there, it’s absolutely amazing!
I also love that in science, everything we do is about working together with other scientist from today and from the past, and that what we do today is going to be used by the scientists of tomorrow. It’s such a great balance between you yourself discovering cool things, and working with other researchers as one team.

I was going to answer, but Natsuko has perfectly encapsulated everything I wanted to say!
