Hi! Yes, I wanted to be a scientist since I was probably 11 or 12 years old. I had a science teacher who was really great at explaining and passionate about what she was teaching. When we started studying biology, I was totally fascinated by this subject and I thought I wanted to do something related to that when I was older. For this reason I choose a scientific high school (I studied in Italy, where I was born) and after that I realised I really wanted to become a scientist and study biology. So I then studied biology at the university and I’m now working as a scientist! However, I know many people who chose later in life that they wanted to become scientists, so you don’t have to know that you want to become a scientist from the beginning! It’s nice to have multiple interests and maybe with time you can find out what you like most 🙂
When I was younger I actually wanted to be an archaeologist as I loved history. I didn’t get into science until I was about to pick my subjects for my GCSE’s.
No! I wanted to be a doctor as long as I can remember. I actually tried to go to university to train to be a doctor instead of a scientist, but I didn’t get in. I thought I could do science for a while instead, to help me get into university and be a doctor later, but I ended up loving being a scientist way more! I definitely made the right choice in the end 🙂
Hey, for me, I always knew that I liked science (and I had my best marks in science as well) since high school, but I never was sure what I wanted to do with that. I did not know either what kind of jobs are possible. So I did a science degree that was a little general, so I could decide to work either in a private companies or in a laboratory at university. It’s very very difficult to know something for sure, in my case, so I had to try. After Uni, I worked for a company as an engineer and then I decided to come back and work at university.
I hope this helps !
Hi! I always wanted to become a primary school teacher. I think I said this to everyone since I was 4 years old. I started to study for this, but after one year I realised I missed biology too much. That’s why I switched to study Biomedical Sciences instead. I wanted to understand the body and discover things myself. Though I still like teaching and try to combine this with my research – I help students during biology practicals, at the university we have a teaching lab.
