Well, I’m quite nerdy and enjoy all science topics even if they are beyond my field of expertise. I am fascinated by discoveries in physics and astronomy even though I don’t understand much about the science behind those discoveries. In medical topics, I don’t think I dislike any particular topics as all of them has their importance and impact on people’s lives. But, I would say I have preferences in research approaches. For example, I think we need to have more interdisciplinary collaborative research in medicine where we bring people from different scientific backgrounds (chemistry, mathematics and biology) together to tackle the problem more efficiently and innovatively.
The bit I really disliked at university (I studied physics) was electronics. There were other bits that were harder to understand, but I just really disliked electronics. I continued into medical physics for a while and all was very electronics-free until I was given the job of testing/calibrating – and adjusting where necessary – electronic equipment. Oh joy! But you know what, I just got on and did it, because sometimes that’s what you have to do.
I can’t think of anything I don’t like, there’s many topics that I don’t understand. A lot of the work being done in theoretical and quantum physics for instance! But it’s still very interesting and I like to ask physicists to talk about it, they often ask me about biology in return.
I like almost all kinds of sciences, but to be honest, I don’t enjoy computer science very much. Though this might be just because I’m not very good at it, and everytime I have to write computer codes, it doesn’t work…
