I work in a science laboratory at the University of Exeter. We use microscopes to look at cells and try to work out what happens when you get sick and how your body works to make you feel better. We mainly look at infections from fungi, which aren’t bacteria or viruses but a completely different group of germs. Some fungi live inside our stomachs, some live on our skin and in our mouth. You cant see them and they live their very happily. But if you get very sick then they might try and get into your blood. If they get into your blood they can make you very very sick. In the laboratory I try to see how our body can fight the fungi and ways that we can train your body to stop fungi getting in to your blood by creating medicines and vaccines. Below are some picture of me at work!

My Typical Day:
I work in a science lab. We collect cells from blood and add fungi to them to see how they act. We look at them through microscopes and add special chemicals to them which make them glow so we can see them better. I then write down everything I can see and take lots of pictures. We use this information to think about how we can help people fight fungi in real life.
